The Multi-Generation Cruise Travel Outlook reflects a high degree of entrepreneurship within the travel distribution landscape. Ninety-one percent (91%) of the total respondents were either agency owners/managers or Independent Contractors (see Chart 1). It is important to note the growth of Independent Contractors (ICs) over the last year – 48% this year as against 38% in 2021. We can expect this to increase further in the years to come as they continue to gain ground in the travel agent community 2 . ICs now see themselves as owners – entrepreneurs in their own right. This is also a reason why we see a big drop in employees, combined with the fact that owners want to decrease their liability of salaries and benefits. Of the total, 80% of respondents were from the U.S. and the rest from Canada. As we have seen in the past, a majority of the U.S. advisors are from Florida, California, New York and Texas. 10 | CHART 1 Travel Agency Owner/Manager Travel Advisor – Independent Contractor Travel Advisor – Employee ADVISORS BY TYPE ADVISOR DEMOGRAPHICS 43% 9% 48% 2 Independent Contractors Gaining Ground in the Travel Agent Community, Travel Market Report (May 2018)
