American Airlines’ new nonstop service between Miami and Turks and Caicos is set to start next week, according to the carrier’s published schedule.
The airline will offer the service between Miami International Airport (MIA) and South Caicos Airport (XSC) on Wednesdays and Saturdays starting March 26. It will be the first international flight into South Caicos, the seventh-largest island in the Turks and Caicos.
American had originally planned to launch the service in February, but the start date was pushed back due to a delay in certification from South Caicos Airport, the Miami Herald reported.
The airport has a single, 6,000-foot runway and one terminal and currently features flights to Providenciales International Airport (PLS) and Grand Turk JAGS McCartney International Airport (GDT) via interCaribbean and Caicos Express Airways. It is about 1.5 miles from the center of Cockburn Harbour, the largest community on South Caicos.
The service will be operated by Envoy Air as American Eagle on the carrier’s Embraer 175 aircraft, a 76-seat regional jet that includes 12 first-class seats and 64 main cabin seats.
