Beaches Ocho Rios Resort to Close Doors in May 2025

Sandals Resorts will permanently close its Beaches Ocho Rios property on May 31, 2025.

Gary C. Sadler, executive vice president of sales and industry relations, made the announcement in a message to travel partners on Thursday, writing that as the brand continues its rapid expansion, it will part ways with the Ocho Rios resort—currently the only property in the company’s portfolio owned by a third party.

“We know how deeply many of your clients cherish the memories created at Beaches Ocho Rios, and we will miss it, too,” Sadler wrote.

There is a possibility the resort could return to the Sandals portfolio. Sadler said the group that owns the property—whose identity has never been publicly disclosed—is planning a major renovation and has indicated “the possibility of a continued relationship.” Still, it is bittersweet news for Sadler and Sandals.

The resort originally opened in 1959 on the Boscobel Beach section of Ocho Rios as the Playboy Club. It later joined the Beaches portfolio as Beaches Boscobel Resort & Golf Club. After a $30 million renovation, it reopened in 2012 as Beaches Ocho Rios Resort & Golf Club.

The resort leaving the portfolio doesn’t necessarily slow down what the company has called the largest expansion in its history. Earlier this year, during the reveal of its new brand campaign for both Beaches and Sandals in New York City, the company announced major plans to double the Beaches footprint over the next four years.

That includes the additions of Beaches Barbados, Beaches Exuma, and Beaches Runaway Bay Resort, along with Treasure Beach Village at Beaches Turks and Caicos, the sixth village addition to that resort.

“Although this change may be a surprise, please know that Beaches Resorts is growing, evolving, and getting ready to deliver even more exceptional experiences for families. We are fully committed to supporting you every step of the way to ensure that your clients have unforgettable vacations,” Sadler said in Thursday’s message to partners.

“Your trust and partnership mean the world to us, and we are excited to continue working together to create unforgettable memories for your clients,” he added.
