Margaritaville Heading to the Bahamas with New Nassau Resort
by Jessica Montevago
Jimmy Buffett’s laid-back lifestyle brand Margaritaville will open its first Bahamas property in the capital city with the new Margaritaville Beach Resort at The Pointe in Nassau.
The $250 million, six-acre development will feature 150 guestrooms and 150 oceanfront vacation homes. It will include a 45-slip marina with berths for up to 150-foot yachts, including dockside WiFi, and a boardwalk lined by tiki hut-style marina shops, a pier restaurant, and yacht club facility. The pier will also serve as a launch pad for pirate ship excursions and a water taxi transporting tourists around Nassau.
The Nassau resort will offer an open-air shopping concourse, a movie theater, bowling alley, outdoor performance stage for live entertainment, spa, a kid’s club, and a private beach with cabanas and chaise lounges. On-site, there will be a host of family-friendly activities, such as a water park, cave aquarium, water slide tower, infinity pool, private hot tub, surf simulator, beach entry pool, children’s splash play area, and a lazy river.
The project is currently under construction and expected to begin a phased opening in mid-2019.

The announced is just one part of a growing empire for Buffett’s Margaritaville, which began as merchandise and themed restaurants before moving into the hotel market. Inspired by the singer’s hit song and lyrics, the brand includes signatures like “License to Chill” and “5 o’ Clock Somewhere” bars.
Jim Wiseman, president of Margaritaville development, previously told TMR the brand is “high quality but accessible. It’s as much about the hammock as about the beach. Jimmy Buffett figured out early on that most people are bored and that fun is very appealing. There is a lot of cultural significance to the brand. Life is tough and when you have one week off it’s powerful to be able to escape.”
Since opening its first hotel in 2010, the company has grown to operate 11 properties with several more in the pipeline. A property in Nashville, across the street from the Music City Convention Center, is scheduled to open in summer 2019, while the 187-room Margaritaville Orlando Resort complete with 12-acre water park opens late 2018.
Agents booking with Margaritaville can take advantage of its travel agent program. The License to Chill Travel Agent program rewards agents with a Margaritaville gift card for number of room nights booked. Additionally, from now through Dec. 20, 2018, travel agents can receive up to 25 percent off best available rates at the Margaritaville Hollywood Beach Resort in Florida.
