Andaz Mayakoba Resort Riviera Maya will temporarily close in March to undergo renovation and rebranding. It will reopen as Alila Mayakoba later this year.

Alila Mayakoba will mark the debut of Hyatt’s Alila brand in Latin America and the Caribbean. The luxury brand, which integrated into the Hyatt portfolio when the company acquired Two Roads Hospitality in late 2018, focuses on sustainability and wellness with resorts in China, India, Indonesia, Maldives, Oman, California, and Malaysia.

“The planned transformation of this beloved resort into a magnificent Alila Mayakoba will inspire guests and ignite curiosity, incorporating local traditions into the guest experience with thoughtful conservation practices that make a positive impact, allowing guests the ability to be involved in the preservation of Mayakoba,” said Pete Sears, Group President, Americas, Hyatt. “As the first Alila branded hotel in Latin America and the Caribbean, we are proud to soon introduce a new level of luxury, sustainability, and impactful wellbeing that inspires guests to interact with the local community and truly immerse themselves in an authentic experience.”

According to Hyatt, the renovations will have “minimal impact to the surrounding environment of Mayakoba’s lush and tropical jungles.” The resort’s room count will be reduced, and the number of suites will increase to 40% of the inventory.

The spa and meeting spaces will be renovated, as well as some other wellness spaces. The restaurant concepts and guest programming will also get a refresh. Standout new offerings will include a new Temazcal, a traditional Mexican steam bath; a beach club; and a revamped lobby lounge serving cocktails made with local ingredients.
