Four Seasons Yachts has announced Kate McCue, one of the cruise industry’s most well-known and beloved captains, will serve as Master on the company’s first ultra-luxury yacht, Four Seasons I.

McCue is a respected name in the cruise industry. In addition to boasting an impressive three decades of maritime experience, she is a trailblazer: In 2015, McCue made history by becoming the first American woman to captain a mega-ton cruise ship.

“Captain Kate McCue is the ideal leader to helm Four Seasons I as we embark on this exciting new chapter in luxury yachting,” said Rainer Stampfer, president, global operations, hotels and resorts, Four Seasons. “Her passion for hospitality, commitment to excellence, and trailblazing leadership align perfectly with our vision to reimagine the yachting experience. We are thrilled to welcome her aboard as we prepare to set sail in 2026, knowing she will inspire both our guests and employees alike.”

As captain, McCue will oversee the yacht’s overall operations. In addition to being tasked with safely navigating the Four Seasons I, she will be responsible for the onboard experience for guests and crew.

McCue spent the last decade as captain with Celebrity Cruises. Over the years she’s held multiple maritime positions with Disney Cruise Line and Royal Caribbean International. With over a million followers on Instagram, Captain Kate is also an internet personality.

“Yachting truly embodies the essence of the sea – calm, effortless, and deeply rejuvenating. This is the same philosophy behind Four Seasons I,” said McCue. “This role is both an incredible honour and an exciting opportunity to shape the Four Seasons Yachts experience from the very first voyage.”

The Four Seasons I celebrated its float out milestone in January 2025. The yacht is scheduled to set sail in January 2026 with winter and spring voyages in the Caribbean, followed by Mediterranean sailings in the summer.

“I look forward to doing what I love most – connecting with guests, leading an exceptional crew, and engaging with local communities,” added McCue. “Together with our crew, we’ll craft unforgettable journeys and set new standards in luxury yachting, ensuring every milestone is a celebration of Four Seasons legendary service and innovation.”
