A trade union strike at Munich International Airport (MUC) is expected to severely disrupt air travel through Germany’s second-busiest airport over the next two days.
The strike, scheduled to last through Friday, is a warning strike by airport workers represented by the Verdi union, including baggage handlers. Verdi is pushing for better pay and improved working conditions for its members.
The airport says around 80% of flights on both Thursday and Friday have already been canceled, with further disruptions possible. All passengers traveling to, from, or through Munich should check with their airline before heading to the airport, as delays and cancellations are expected to continue.
Lufthansa, which has most of the cancellations at Munich this week, says that some of its passengers are being automatically rebooked and for those that aren’t, Lufthansa has a policy for advisors to rebook.
