Germany’s trade union ver.di has called for a strike by public service employees and ground handling staff at 11 airports throughout the country on Monday, March 10. This includes Germany’s busiest airports like Frankfurt, Munich, and Berlin-Brandenburg.
The full day, 24-hour strike could affect up to half a million travelers, with some 3,400 flights canceled, The Associated Press is reporting. Berlin has already canceled all of its flight scheduled for Monday.
In an email to travel agencies, Lufthansa wrote there will be “extensive cancellations on all Lufthansa Group airlines flights…” As a result, Lufthansa is giving anyone who is booked to fly into or out of Germany on March 10 the opportunity to rebook free of charge (keeping original origin and destination) for on or after March 7 through on or before March 17, 2025.
This is not the first time that ver.di has forced a work stoppage but it will be the most extensive. The union previously staged several walk-outs last month.
