What to Know About Wi-Fi on Each Major Ocean and River Cruise Line

Fewer cruisers want to lock away their phones in the cabin safe and go without social media and email. Keeping up with which cruise lines include Wi-Fi and what the various packages are on those that don’t include it can be difficult.
To help you help your clients, Travel Market Report has rounded up what you need to know about Wi-Fi on each cruise line (river and ocean).
AmaWaterways
All guests on Europe river cruises receive free unlimited Wi-Fi. In Vietnam and Cambodia, free Wi-Fi is only available in the lounge. In Africa, free Wi-Fi is offered but can be quite spotty.
American Cruise Lines
All guests receive free unlimited Wi-Fi.
Avalon Waterways
All Avalon ships in Europe and Egypt have ship-wide complimentary Wi-Fi. On the Mekong and Ganges, complimentary Wi-Fi access is available only in the Panorama Lounge.
Azamara
Three packages are available.
- 60 minutes
- a one-day pass (single 24-hour continuous time period)
- unlimited full-voyages passes.

Celebrity Cruises
Two packages are available. The Basic package is included for free in Celebrity’s All Included pricing.
- Basic: Browse the web, send emails and text family and friends via select messaging apps. Does not support email of large files, photo or video sharing on social media, use of streaming apps or making video calls.
- Premium: All of the above, plus messaging and video chatting, sending large files, posting on social media, and streaming videos, movies, TV and music.
Savings are available by purchasing plans pre-cruise. Wi-Fi (complimentary only) on the line’s Galapagos-based ships is limited to hotspots in public areas.
Celestyal Cruises
One option available in one-hour, three-hour, six-hour and unlimited packages. Cruisers who book an ehnahced cruise fare get one free hour of Wi-Fi per day.
Cunard
Two options are available.
- Essential Plan: Provides access to web browsing, email, music streaming and social media – available in 24-hour or full-voyage packages
- Premium Plan: All of the above plus video streaming and all at faster connection speeds than the Essential Plan – available in 24-hour or full-voyage packages
Packages can be purchased for one to four devices.
Disney Cruise Line
Four Connect@Sea options are available.
- Stay Connected: The smallest package is perfect for those who plan to check their social media apps but not upload any photos.
- Basic Surf: With the Basis Surf package, cruisers can stay connected to family and friends via social media, including uploading photos, check and send email, and other do other basic Internet-related activities.
- Premium Surf: This largest package is best for cruisers who want to do all of the above, plus stream video content.
- 24-Hour Packages: Each of the above packages can be purchased for the full cruise or for a 24-hour period.
Packages are per device. Guests can pay more to use more than one device with each package.
Emerald
All guests on river and yacht cruises receive free unlimited Wi-Fi.
Holland America Line
Three packages are available.
- Social: Cruisers can keep their social media up to date and message family and friends using social messaging apps (audio/video features not supported)
- Surf: Everything in the Social package, along with the ability to read the news, check and send email, keep up with sports apps, and other similar activities
- Premium: Everything in the Social and Surf packages, plus the ability to make audio and video calls use messaging apps like WhatsApp, FaceTime and others.
Lindblad Expeditions-National Geographic
Lindblad offers three tiers of Wi-Fi onboard all of its ships.
- Basic: A complimentary internet package that can accomodate email, messaging, and social media apps.
- Enhanced: Offers a faster connection, with speeds of up to 5 Mbps to accommodate web browsing and teleconferencing.
- Premium: The highest-quality connection plan, with speeds of up to 10 Mbps to accommodate services such as video streaming and uploading and sending large files. Guests who purchase this plan will also enjoy priority access to the ship’s internet connection during periods of increased traffic.
MSC Cruises
Two packages are available.
- Browse: This option gives cruisers unlimited access to all social media apps (including voice messaging apps), along with email and websites. (Does not support streaming of video or music.)
- Browse & Stream: For the cruiser who wants to do it all online, this package provides unlimited data to websites, social media and messaging apps, and streaming services like Netflix, Hulu and others.
Packages are per device. Guests can pay more to use more than one device with each package. Clients can save 20% by pre-purchasing Internet before their cruise. (Advisors who book Wi-Fi packages on behalf of their clients will receive commission.)
Norwegian Cruise Line
Two packages available (in one-, two- and four-device options). Cruisers receive free Wi-Fi minutes (varies by sailing length) with the line’s Free at Sea fares.
- Unlimited Standard Access: Browse the web, check email, and use social media and messaging apps. Does not support streaming of video or audio.
- Unlimited Premium Access: All of the above, plus VPN functionality and streaming of video and audio on most popular apps including YouTube, Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu and others.
Savings are available by purchasing plans pre-cruise. Discounts are available to upper-level Latitudes loyalty members.
Oceania Cruises
Unlimited Wavenet Wi-Fi is included in the price of all Oceania Cruises sailings, but does not include access to streaming (aka Wavenet Prime). One login is provided per suite or stateroom, which may be used on one device at a time unless you are booked in one of the top suite categories (Owners, Vista, Oceania) where the free Wavenet Wi-Fi applies to both guests (ie two logins per suite).
Cruisers can pay to upgrade to Wavenet Prime for access to streaming. Guests can also pay for additional logons, either for Wavenet or Wavenet Prime.
Princess Cruises
Only one option is available in either one-device or four-device MedallionNet packages. MedallionNet provides unlimited Wi-Fi with full functionality for any type of online activity guests want to partake in.
Savings are available by purchasing a plan pre-cruise. Platinum and Elite guests get a discount of 50% off in the form of onboard credit.
Cruisers who select a Princess Plus or Princess Premier cruise fare receive complimentary Wi-Fi.
Regent Seven Seas Cruises
Unlimited Wi-Fi is included in the price of all Regent Seven Seas Cruises sailings, but does not include access to bandwidth-heavy applications such as Skype, Netflix, YouTube and VPN. One login is provided per suite, which may be used on one device at a time. Gold-level and higher members of the Seven Seas Society and passengers staying in Concierge Suites and higher receive up to four logins/devices per suite.
Cruisers can pay a per-day fee to upgrade to an unlimited Wi-Fi plan that supports high-bandwidth activities including streaming.
Royal Caribbean International
Two packages are available, each with options for up to four devices.
- Voom Surf: This full-cruise package is good for cruisers who only want to check their emails, exchange text-only messages on messaging apps, and browse the web.
- Voom Surf + Stream: Royal Caribbean’s full-cruise premium Wi-Fi package lets you do all of the above, plus message and video chat, post photos and video on social media, Live Stream, and stream videos, music and more on streaming services.
Savings are available by purchasing plans pre-cruise.
Scenic
All guests on river and yacht cruises receive free unlimited Wi-Fi.
Seabourn
All guest automatically receive a free Surf Wi-Fi package that can be used with one device at a time, with unlimited access to general web browsing, email, and social media.
Guests booked in Penthouse and Premium suite categories, as well as Seabourn Club members who have reached Diamond-level status or above will receive the upgraded Stream package.
Guests who are booked in Ocean View and Veranda suites can pay to upgrade to the Steam Wi-Fi package, which can be used with up to four devices per guest with unlimited access to all of the above, as well as video streaming, VoIP, VPN and cloud storage services.
Silversea Cruises
Unlimited standard Internet is included for Classic fleet passengers in Vista and Veranda suites. Unlimited premium Internet is included for Classic fleet passengers in Medallion, Silver, Royal, Grand and Owner’s suites. All guests on full World Cruises or Grand Voyages receive unlimited premium Wi-Fi for the duration.
Included Internet on Silversea’s Expedition fleet is as follows:
- Silver Cloud/Silver Wind/Silver Shadow/Silver Whisper/Silver Spirit/Silver Must: Unlimited standard Internet for guests in Vista, Veranda and Deluxe Veranda suites, and unlimited premium Internet for guests in Medallion, Silver, Royal, Grand and Owner’s suites
- Silver Explorer: Unlimited standard Internet for guests in Adventurer, Explorer, View, Vista and Veranda suites, and unlimited premium Internet for guests in Medallion, Silver, Grand and Owner’s suites
- Silver Origin: Unlimited standard Internet access for all guests.
Guests with standard Internet may pay to upgrade to premium.
Tauck
All guests on river and small-ship sailings receive free unlimited Wi-Fi.
UnCruise Adventures
No Wi-Fi on any of the ships, except in the Galapagos where free Wi-Fi is available in the library.
Uniworld Boutique River Cruises
All guests receive free Wi-Fi.
Virgin Voyages
All guests receive unlimited Wi-Fi, which supports checking and posting to social media, email, web browsing and messaging apps. In the Caribbean, cruisers can upgrade to a premium package that supports streaming, VPN, and other high-bandwidth activities for an extra fee. A similar option for cruises in Europe is coming in late 2023.
Guests may connect to up to two devices at the same time.
Viking
All guests (except on Mekong river cruises) receive free Wi-Fi.
Windstar Cruises
Three packages are available, based on the amount of data used rather than time.
- Email Plan: This plan provides 200 MB of data. It is recommended for clients who will be checking email and doing very limited web browsing. Windstar estimates this plan would last a typical user anywhere from 15 to 60 minutes.
- Surfing Plan: This plan provides 500 MB of data. It is recommended for clients who will be checking email and browsing website, with some ability to post limited photos to social media. Windstar estimates this plan would last a typical user anywhere from 90 to 360 minutes.
- Unlimited Plan: This plan provides unlimited data and varies in price by how long the cruise voyage is.
All packages allow for use of only one device at a time.
