Norwegian Cruise Line To Sail Cuba From Port Canaveral

Norwegian Cruise Line’s Norwegian Sun will reposition to Port Canaveral in summer 2018 to sail a new schedule of Cuban cruises.

Sun, which was originally scheduled to sail Alaska in summer 2018, will now sail four-day all-inclusive sailings (including unlimited complimentary beverages), along with three-day Bahamas cruises, starting May 7, 2018.

The Cuba sailings will include an overnight stay in Havana and a stop in Key West, while the Bahamas itineraries will include a stop in Nassau and Great Stirrup Cay.

The 1,936-guest ship will be coming off its Norwegian Edge dry dock enhancement before heading to Port Canaveral. When it reemerges, it will have gotten a facelift to its 16 dining venues and 12 bars and lounges.

Sun’s repositioning marks yet another Cuba commitment from a cruise line. As airlines trim their Cuba service and hotels deal with an uncertain future, cruise lines are strengthening their commitment, with Holland America Line, Azamara Club Cruises, Royal Caribbean Cruise Line and now Norwegian all adding Cuba sailings because of high demand since May.

Meanwhile, Norwegian will send Jewel from Tokyo to Seattle to replace Sun as its third ship in Alaska during the summer 2018 season. After a nine-day repositioning cruise, Jewel will sail seven-day roundtrip itineraries out of Vancouver to Juneau, Skagway and Ketchikan starting June 4, 2018.

Jewel will then alternate between Vancouver and Seward, sailing seven-day itineraries out of both cities. The Vancouver itinerary will include stops in Ketchikan, Juneau, Skagway and Seward, while the Seward itineraries will stop at Icy Strait Point, Juneau, Skagway, Ketchikan and then Vancouver.
