The newest ship from Princess Cruises, the sixth in the cruise line’s Royal Class of ships, will be named Discovery Princess, Princess announced this week.
The ship, which is set to enter service in the Mediterranean on Nov. 3, 2021, will sail 3,660 passengers and will be the first Princes ship to be based on the U.S. West Coast, when it eventually arrives in Los Angeles, offering itineraries to Mexico and the California Coast.
“Discovery is both an expression of our brand, as well as an important aspect of our guest experience. We know Discovery Princess will offer our guests cruise vacations that create memories they will cherish for a lifetime, and we’re proud to mark a major milestone basing our newest ship on the West Coast.”
The ship is currently under construction at the Fincantieri Shipyard in Monfalcone, Italy, and is expected to enter service with a lot of the same details of its sister ships, including Enchanted Princess (which is scheduled to enter service next year), Sky Princess, Majestic Princess, Regal Princess, and Royal Princess.
Prior to its arrival on the West Coast, the ship will offer eight itinerary options in the Mediterranean out of Rome, Athens, and Barcelona in November 2021. It will then move to the Caribbean, offering six holiday sailings in December, including sailings with a new port of call in Tortula.
Discovery will then offer six South America sailings, finishing with a 50-night sailing from Ft. Lauderdale to Los Angeles departing Feb. 7, 2020.
Bookings open for sailing on Oct. 8, 2019. Bookings for the 50-night sailing from Ft. Lauderdale to Los Angeles include onboard credit, complimentary gratuities, and complimentary WiFi.
