The partnership, which starts today, gives CLIA agency and agent members access to Marriott’s fam trips, fam rates, and industry discounts across Marriott’s 19 brands once they have completed Marriott’s Hotel Excellence training program. It also allows CLIA members to earn commissions on hotel bookings.
The partnership will add “immeasurable value to our community,” said CLIA president and CEO Cindy D’Aoust.
CLIA members must have up-to-date EIN numbers and be paid CLIA Global Travel Agency members to enroll in the Marriott program.
The partnership is good news for travel agents who don’t have an IATA membership.
Agents told TMR in April that Marriott was the only major hotel chain that didn’t recognize CLIA agency members, while Starwood did. While they were concerned that the merger would hurt the CLIA partnership with Starwood, the opposite has happened.
Brian King, global officer for Marriott signature brands and global sales, said the partnership “underscores Marriott’s commitment to supporting and working with current and future generations of travel professionals.”
