Three Questions with Hilton Orlando’s John Luke
by Cheryl RosenQ: What trends do you see developing in the meetings industry for 2016? What are customers asking for now more than in the past?
A: We’ve noticed that customers are really seeking transparency. In order to cater to this request we ensure that all costs in our contracts are clearly outlined from the beginning. Faster Wi-Fi and broad connectivity continue to be top-of-mind for meetings. We meet the needs for high speed Internet access both in-room and in meeting spaces, which allows for instantaneous media streaming, multiple devices per user, and international real-time connectivity.
On the food and beverage front, customized menus with local/sustainable options as well as options that cater to people with allergies/dietary restrictions continue to be a priority. Meeting planners are seeking unique items that are indigenous and fresh from Florida.
Q: What’s the number-one thing on your wish list for 2016?
A: I’d like to ensure we are catering to the needs of millennials and their desire for less formal meetings. This generation seeks casual, comfortable, and out-of-the- box spaces equipped with full Internet connectivity.
Q: What do you wish meeting planners better understood about working with the Hilton Orlando?
A: I would like all meeting planners to understand how passionate our team members are. Our staff makes it possible to seamlessly bring any and all ideas to life, no matter how grandiose. Additionally, I’d like to convey that the Hilton Orlando truly offers everything one could want during a meeting all in one place. Our property is ideal for both business and leisure travel thanks to our versatile spaces, pre-function/foyer areas that allow attendees to enjoy the Florida sunshine, and our on-site recreation component that includes a lazy river and two pools. Lastly, it is our functional and diverse space options that are most appealing for meeting planners. We offer both indoor and outdoor space, while continuously introducing new space. We have meeting planners and attendees in mind when planning for capital expenses and have a 20+ year plan in place.
