Guests at Walt Disney World will soon be able to use their smartphone to unlock their rooms, as digital keys are being introduced across the park’s resort hotels.
The new feature will be available in addition to the MagicBands, which have been used as room keys for the past five years.
Visitors activate the new digital key feature on their check-in day through the My Disney Experience app. To enter their room, they tap the “unlock door” button and then hold their phone against the door lock.
Digital keys can also be used to unlock the hotel’s entrance gate and common area doors, such as the fitness centers and swimming pools.
The option will be available later this month at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge, including the Boulder Ridge Villas and Copper Creek Villas & Cabins, and is expected to expand to other Disney Resort hotels in the coming months, according to the official Disney Parks Blog.
In other news, Disney’s travel agent website will be completely redesigned to provide an “enhanced experience” for users, the company shared on Wednesday.
Upgrades include a new design and navigation, optimization for mobile devices, and customizable options like layout and notifications. The updated site will also have a more streamlined and efficient booking module. The date of the rollout was not revealed.
