Rio Unveils Revamped Airport Ahead Of Olympics
by Jessica MontevagoThe expansion of Rio’s Tom Jobim International Airport debuted on Monday, three months before tourists are expected to flock there for the Olympics.
The expansion nearly doubled its passenger capacity, to 30 million passengers a year, up from 17 million. It also added an 86,000-square-foot duty-free shop, 65,000 square feet of lounge space, and more than 100 new stores and restaurants.
Airport officials expect the airport to receive 1.5 million visitors for the Olympics, which is being held Aug. 5 to Aug. 21.
