GBTA Survey: Travel Buyers Book Less with Lufthansa After Implementing Surcharge
About 42% of travel buyers have booked fewer flights with Lufthansa since the airline introduced a booking surcharge on Sept. 1, according to a survey by the Global Business Travel Association and its European partner network.
The German airline charges €16 on travel purchased anywhere other than its websites, service centers, and airport ticket counters.
Almost everyone (93%) surveyed said they will refuse to book directly on Lufthansa’s site, despite the fee. More than one-third (39%) of travel buyers are seeking alternative carriers altogether.
The Lufthansa Group airlines, which includes Lufthansa, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, and Swiss International Air Lines, announced the new “Distribution Cost Charge” back in June.
