Norwegian Cruise Line Makes Havana Debut
by Daniel McCarthyNorwegian Cruise Line celebrated a milestone early Tuesday morning as Norwegian Sky arrived in Havana Harbor to mark the first Cuba port call in its history.
Speaking in Spanish to attendees, Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings CEO and president Frank Del Rio thanked Havana for the reception. The Cuban-born Del Rio, who emigrated in 1961 right before his seventh birthday, also said that it’s fitting Norwegian would arrive in Cuba 50 years after the last cruise ship from the United States, as 2017 marks the cruise line’s 50th year in business.
The largest ship sailing to Cuba, the 2,004-passenger Sky will continue to sail from Miami Monday afternoons, land in Havana Tuesday mornings, and stay over until 5:00 p.m. on Wednesdays. Then it departs to Great Stirrup Cay, and returns to Miami on Friday mornings.
