First Look: Silversea’s Silver Cloud

by Daniel McCarthy  March 26, 2017

Silversea Cruises gave the cruise world a glimpse into the refurbished Silver Cloud today, to showcase its conversion into an ice-class expedition ship.

Silver Cloud will be refurbished between August and October this year, and will come back into service equipped with polar exploration hardware, including additions to the hull to let it sail in icy polar waters.

La Terrazza.

The refurbishment also will add public spaces, an observation lounge and a gym with Technogym equipment, and update the Panaroma Lounge and Venetian Lounge. The restaurants, La Terrazza and The Restaurant, will get new flooring, upholstery and lighting.

Panorama Lounge.

Silversea also will limit the ship’s capacity to 260 for non-polar regions and 200 for polar regions, to provide “the highest levels of personalized and attentive service”—and also so all guests can disembark at the same time.

Each sailing will include up to 19 polar experts. They will give daily presentations in the state-of-the-art theater that will also be streamed to each stateroom.

Observation Lounge.

“We look forward to welcoming guests aboard to experience Silver Cloud’s luxurious interiors as well as her incredible itineraries later this year,” said chief marketing officer Barbara Muckermann.

The refurbishment is part of a $170-million fleet refurbishment plan over the next 18 months, that will include Silver Wind, Silver Whisper, Silver Discoverer, Silver Shadow, Silver Explorer and Silver Galapagos.
