AmaWaterways’ Wellness Program to Go Fleetwide
by Jessica Montevago
"Having the ability to exercise on the sundeck while cruising through the beautiful rivers of Europe and Asia is a very unique opportunity,” said Sports Scientist and Corporate Wellness Host, Selina Wank.
AmaWaterways revealed plans to expand its Wellness Program across its fleet in Europe and Southeast Asia in 2019, with the exception of Portugal.
The program has a dedicated Wellness Host on each ship, who leads group fitness classes – such as stretching, core strengthening and resistance band training – and gives lectures and discussions related to holistic wellness. Additional classes, like yoga, Pilates and circuit training, may also be offered.
On shore, guests can take part in active excursions, including guided hiking, biking and running outings through the beautiful cities and villages showcased on each itinerary.
Guests wanting to pair their exercise with healthy eating will be able to do so as healthy food options will be available for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Offerings include fresh fish, cage-free eggs, crate-free pork, and vitamin shots. Low-sodium, gluten-free, and vegetarian options are also available.
In 2019, guests onboard the new AmaMagna will also have access to the Zen Wellness Studio, lending more space for group fitness classes, lectures and personal training sessions.
“I believe so strongly in the importance of integrating regular exercise and healthy eating into our day-to-day lives, and it shouldn’t have to stop while having fun on vacation,” said Kristin Karst, executive vice president and co-owner of AmaWaterways, who worked with Selina Wank, sports scientist and corporate wellness host, to develop the program’s offerings.
Following the program’s debut aboard the AmaLyra in 2017, AmaWaterways introduced it to six more ships this year: AmaCerto, AmaPrima, AmaSonata, AmaDante and AmaDolce.
