Southwest Airlines Trims Cuba Service, Focuses On Havana
by Marilee CrockerSouthwest Airlines said it will stop flying to Varadero and Santa Clara, Cuba, effective Sept. 5, and will instead concentrate its service on Havana. The airline, which currently flies nonstop to Havana twice daily out of Fort Lauderdale, plans to increase that service to three daily roundtrips, pending U.S. Department of Transportation approval. Southwest also operates a daily nonstop to Havana from Tampa.
Southwest said it is contacting customers who held reservations for travel to Varadero and Santa Clara on Sept. 5 and beyond to offer refunds of purchased tickets.
