Silversea Opens 2023 World Cruise to ‘Unprecedented Demand’

Silversea Opens 2023 World Cruise to ‘Unprecedented Demand’

Another day, another “record sales” headline from the cruise industry.

After a year of no sailings and bad news, cruise lines are increasingly seeing pent-up demand turn into big sales numbers as they begin to open up bookings for sailings in 2021, 2022, and beyond.

On Tuesday, Silversea Cruise announced that its World Cruise for 2023, an arts-inspired sailing, has “shattered its booking records,” fully selling out on the day of its general opening. That makes it the most successful World Cruise launch in the line’s 27-year history.

The news from Silversea joins a number of other bullish headlines for the cruise industry including Crystal’s return to sailing in the Bahamas opening to “record bookings” this week, and the return of Royal Caribbean and Celebrity Cruises to sailing later this year. Still, the industry is awaiting other news on its restart, including whether or not the 2021 Alaska season will be salvaged.

“We are delighted to have seen unprecedented demand for our World Cruise 2023, South Side Story, which sold out within hours of its general opening,” Roberto Martinoli, Silversea’s president and CEO, said in a statement.”

“The most successful World Cruise launch in the history of our cruise line, this triumph pays testament to the strong demand we are seeing in the market, particularly from affluent, sophisticated travelers. I strongly advise our travel partners to be quick in adding their interested clients to the voyage’s waitlist, as Silver Shadow is sure to embark upon this remarkable itinerary at capacity.”

Silversea’s World Cruise is scheduled to leave Sydney on January 10, 2023, and arrive in Fort Lauderdale on May 28, bringing guests to destinations such as Papua New Guinea, Mauritius, Réunion Island, and Cape Verde. It includes a total of 20 overnight calls, including 10 days in Tasmania and New Zealand, three days in Myanmar, and a full week in South Africa.

Fares range from $74,000 to $278,000 per guest, based on double occupancy.
