Mexican airline Volaris will launch weekly direct flights from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) to Acapulco International Airport (ACA) starting on Dec. 19, 2017 with plans to increase the frequency later in 2018.
The most iconic image of Acapulco may be the cliff divers that fly off La Quebrada but its Hollywood dazzle from the 50s also catapulted the city’s fame. “We are very excited with Volaris’ new service between Los Angeles and Acapulco as these destinations have long had a close relationship dating back from the 1950s,” said Ernesto Rodríguez Escalona, Secretary of Tourism of the State of Guerrero.
The new route will operate a weekly basis and represents an effort to make the destination more accessible to international visitors. The city plans to update its tourism infrastructure with the debut of a new state-of-the-art airport terminal in 2018 that will ease passenger flow and increase arrivals capacity.
The city has also received a billion-dollar investment from Grupo Autofin, a private conglomerate that recently launched XTASEA the world’s largest over-the-ocean zipline, and is currently renovating some of the most iconic hotels in the city, as well as developing a new Medical Center, a tennis stadium and an eco-amusement park. The completion dates for these projects are all between 2017 and 2022.
