MGM Resorts International has signed a tentative labor agreement with about 25,000 union workers, averting a strike at ten of its Las Vegas properties.

Combined with a tentative agreement struck last Friday with Caesars Entertainment Corp., the deals cover about 36,000 of the 50,000 bartenders, cocktail servers, maids, cooks and other staff, at 19 Las Vegas properties.

“We are pleased to announce that a tentative agreement has been reached with @MGMResortsIntl,” the Culinary Union tweeted on Saturday, June 2. “The historic new 5-year contract covers approximately 24,000 workers at 10 casino resorts on the Las Vegas Strip. (More details to follow).”

MGM Resorts International’s roster of properties covered by the agreements include: the Aria Resort & Casino; Bellagio Hotel & Casino; Circus Circus Hotel & Resort; Excalibur Hotel & Casino; Luxor Hotel & Casino; MGM Grand Las Vegas; The Mirage; New York-New York Hotel & Casino; and two properties inside the Mandalay Bay, the Delano and the Park MGM, formerly the Monte Carlo Hotel & Casino.

MGM Resorts had not issued a press release by press time today confirming the agreement with Culinary Local 226 and Bartenders Local 165.

On Friday, Caesars Entertainment Corp. signed a tentative agreement covering about 12,000 workers at their nine Las Vegas resorts and casinos, including: Bally’s, Caesars Palace, The Cromwell, the Flamingo, Harrah’s, Paris, Planet Hollywood, The Linq and the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino.

The Culinary Union said on its Twitter account that it is continuing to negotiate with the remaining 15 Las Vegas casino resorts whose employees it represents and whose contracts have expired.

Properties on the Las Vegas Strip include: the Four Seasons Hotel Las Vegas, the Stratosphere Hotel, the SLS Las Vegas, the Treasure Island Hotel, the Tropicana Las Vegas and the West Gate Las Vegas Resort & Casino@FSLasVegas. In downtown Las Vegas, properties still in negotiations include: the Downtown Grand, Fremont Casino, the Golden Nugget and the Plaza Hotel Casino.

Rank-and-file workers at Caesars and MGM will still need to ratify the contracts in as-yet-unscheduled votes.

The threat of a strike came as the Vegas Golden Knights are competing in the NHL’s Stanley Cup finals at the MGM Resorts-owned T-Mobile Arena. Game Five is scheduled for Thursday. The last Las Vegas worker strike lasted 67 days, in 1984.
