On Monday evening, President Trump announced his nomination of Bryan Bedford, the current head of regional carrier Republic Airways, to lead the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
Bedford, who previously led Mesa Airlines and Business Express Airlines, would succeed Chris Rocheleau, the acting FAA Administrator since January.
In a social media post, President Trump said Bedford would collaborate with Secretary of Transportation Sen. Duffy to “ensure the safety of nearly one billion annual passenger movements.”
Bedford now requires Senate confirmation before assuming the role.
Shortly after the nomination, U.S. Travel Association President and CEO Geoff Freeman praised Bedford’s appointment, citing his experience not only as the head of an airline but also as a pilot, making him a strong candidate to lead the agency. Freeman added that the FAA is “currently under immense pressure to modernize” and that Bedford is the perfect candidate to lead that modernization.
“Bedford is an outstanding candidate to lead the FAA through this historic transformation and work with the administration to usher in a ‘Golden Age of Travel.’ We urge the Senate to swiftly consider Mr. Bedford’s nomination,” he said.
