Singapore Adds Six New Hotels
by Anna GleksmanAfter three new hotels last year added 6.5% to Singapore’s room inventory, the city is opening six more.
The newest is the Hotel ibis Styles Singapore, a 298-room property designed with a cruise-like exterior. It has an in-house restaurant and bar that the gym overlooks, plus an 82-foot freeform pool. The Ibis is one of Accor’s economy brands, and this is its first property in Singapore.
Next quarter will bring the M Social Singapore, a member of Millennium Hotels and Resorts’ signature Leng’s Collection. With 293 rooms, it is located along the historic Singapore River overlooking the Robertson Quay precinct.
Hotel Indigo Singapore Katong will be the first of the InterContinental Hotels Group’s boutique brand in Singapore, opening by June with 131 rooms at Joo Chiat, a key heritage site.
The Holiday Inn Express Singapore Katong, the third Holiday Inn and the largest hotel of the brand in the country, also will open in June, with 451 rooms.
FourPoints by Sheraton Singapore, Riverview, will follow in July near the central business district. Currently undergoing a $17.8-million renovation and redesign, it will include more than 9,000 square feet of meeting and ballroom space.
Finally, in what will be Singapore’s largest building, the multi-billion dollar Tanjong Pagar Centre outside the Central Business District, the Chinatown Sofitel Singapore City Centre will house a 222-room hotel with an executive lounge, a 2,034-square-foot ballroom, and eight meeting rooms. It will offer guests direct access to the Tanjong Pagar MRT Station.
