Two passengers sailing onboard Celebrity Millennium have tested positive for COVID-19, Celebrity confirmed to TMR on Friday morning.
The passengers, who were sharing a stateroom, are currently asymptomatic, in isolation, and being monitored by Celebrity’s medical team onboard. Both were only revealed to have tested positive after being tested during one of the required end-of-cruise testing rounds that Celebrity conducts at the late stages of each sailing.
“We are conducting contact tracing, expediting testing for all close contacts, and closely monitoring the situation,” Celebrity said in a statement.
The ship is sailing under vaccination rules with its passengers and entire crew fully vaccinated (the ship came back into service as the largest COVID-19 vaccinated cruise in the world so far). Celebrity required all guests on Millennium to show proof of vaccination as well as a negative COVID-19 test within 72 hours before sailing from its homeport St. Maarten this past Saturday.
Celebrity, in its statement, said that the positive tests show just how effective its health and safety protocols are.
“This situation demonstrates that our rigorous health and safety protocols work to protect our crew, guests, and the communities we visit,” it said.
