Dream Hotel Group Expands Luxury Lifestyle Brand
by Jessica MontevagoDream Hollywood is anchoring the ongoing revitalization of historic Hollywood.
The company behind Manhattan’s trendy, sought-after Dream Downtown Hotel is looking to repeat that success on the West Coast.
Dream Hotel Group is bringing its upper upscale lifestyle brand to Los Angeles. Located between the Hollywood Hills and downtown L.A., the 179-room Dream Hollywood–now slated to open by the end of this year–is anchoring the ongoing revitalization of Hollywood. The hotel’s design, by the award-winning architecture and design firm the Rockwell Group, features large windows, bronze finishes and abstract wallpaper of iconic L.A. images. The hotels main highlight, however, might be its 11,000-square-foot rooftop space with a swimming pool and views of the city’s skyline, and on a clear night, the Pacific Ocean. The property will also feature five dining and nightlife venues, aiming to be “it” place for both locals and guests.

“Understanding the local community and what consumers want in a specific market is key for Dream. It allows us to think and build outside the box to create the most exciting lifestyle hotel in that market,” said Dream Hotel Group CEO Jay Stein. However, that kind of popularity takes time, he said, adding that Dream Downtown is where it is now after a four year transformation.
It also means not using a formula. “We’re not bringing carbon copies to each location,” Stein said, in regards to the United States pipeline. The company will debut in five other U.S. cities by 2019, as part of a $1.5 billion hotel development plan doubling its Dream Hotels brand portfolio. The 169-room Dream Nashville, for example, will celebrate the city’s music scene and history of its Printer’s Alley location; while in Dallas, the 260-room hotel will likely feature a sports bar option. New luxury boutique hotels also include the 175-room Dream Palm Springs, 239-room Dream Times Square and 254-key Dream Long Island City.
The group already has plans beyond those five cities. While those are all new-build hotels that typically take two to three years to complete, Stein told TMR “we’re not opposed to doing a quicker re-model in other locations like Seattle, Denver, D.C., or Portland.” The key is finding buildings that can house four- and five-star hotels with wellness amenities and multiple dining and nightlife venues, he said, but he’s confident more Dream Hotels will be popping up in the near future.
In addition to Dream Downtown, Dream Hotels currently operates boutique luxury properties in New York City’s Midtown; Bangkok and Phuket, Thailand; and South Beach Miami. The company also announced plans to open its first Middle East hotel in 2019 with the 325-room Dream Doha in Qatar.
