Travel + Leisure dons the SPF on a 100-page summer getaway July issue, taking us to a reborn Los Cabos, the timeless long days of Nantucket, and rocky Corsica.
Nearly two years after Los Cabos was devastated by Hurricane Odile, new and renovated properties have breathed life into the Mexican destination. T+L features the virtually brand new JW Marriott Beach Resort & Spa, featuring 13 pools and a 6,500-square-foot spa.
Classic New England charm is showcased in a nine-page Nantucket feature rich with serene shoreline scenes, retail and seafood, where time seems to slow down. Contrast that with the stunning rugged island of Corsica, which, the author points out, Guy de Maupassant described as “colossal undulations of earth.” Michael Paterniti takes the reader to secluded beaches, the red granite cliffs of Piana and a vineyard in Patrimonio.
America’s largest protected preserve, Alaska’s Wrangell-St. Elias National Park, is lovingly featured across six pages, as writer Sophy Roberts gets an inside look from a family of bush pilots.
In its July/August issue, AFAR magazine features lobsters and lighthouses in Portland, ME. AFAR visits Pittsburgh, Buffalo and Cleveland, quintessential American Rust Belt cities on the rise. And designer Elora Hardy shares her thoughts on moving back to Ubud, a rising tourist, arts and cultural destination in Bali’s central foothills, after years of living abroad.
On a more serious note, AFAR also takes its readers to 13 unforgettable experiences in places undergoing tremendous change, from Greenland’s melting glaciers, to the sinking city of Venice, to floating in the Dead Sea.
