Steve Wynn Has Big Plans For Vegas
by Richard D'AmbrosioWynn Resorts has announced preliminary plans for a 1,000-room expansion of its Las Vegas strip property featuring a 7- to 10-acre lagoon that will leverage the latest in design technology to conserve water and offer a groundbreaking beach-like setting in the Nevada desert.
At a recent investment conference, Steve Wynn described the lagoon as the centerpiece around which he will develop the 38-acre Wynn Paradise Park project, located at the current Wynn Las Vegas complex. As part of the full project, the resort would add a new tower.
The lagoon would feature a mile-long perimeter of white-sand beaches and a boardwalk; host water skiing, paddle boarding, and parasailing; and offer evening fireworks displays from an island in the middle. Crystal Lagoons’ projects typically are 9 to 15 feet deep.
Uri Man, CEO of Crystal Lagoons US Corp. of Coral Gables, FL, claims the lagoon will use 30 times less water than a typical golf course and 50% less than a park of the same size. Crystal Lagoons uses patented technologies to reduce the chemicals needed to keep water clean and reduce the cost of operations.
If work can begin by the end of the year, Wynn believes the project, which still requires board of director approval, will be complete by 2020. The new tower will complement the Wynn Las Vegas and Encore towers.
Crystal Lagoons has 11 signed projects in the United States and says it is evaluating another 44. The Wynn Las Vegas project will be its largest to date.
