A new Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) bill might be giving some relief to unlucky travelers.
Fliers, who have their checked bags delayed or lost, will able to get a refund on their fees if the FAA reauthorization bill finds its way through Congress without changes.
Both the Senate and House have versions of the bill that would give travelers a refund—the Senate’s version automatically gives fliers refunds if their checked bags aren’t received within 6 hours of arrival on a domestic flights and 12 hours on international flights; the House’s version sets a 24-hour deadline.
Airlines for America, the largest airline trade association, has already voiced its opposition to the bill. In a statement, its president and CEO Nicholas Calio said that legislation like this will make it more expensive for travelers to fly.
If passed, the bill’s changes won’t come into effect for the next year.
