Expedition Cruise Is Travel’s Fastest Growing Segment: What Advisors Should Know

August 22, 2024
TMR Expedition Cruise Outlook

Expedition cruising is the fastest-growing segment in the cruise industry, but not enough advisors are taking advantage of this increasing consumer demand.

That’s according to the 800 travel advisors across North America who helped TMR compile its new Outlook on Expedition Cruise for 2024, an inside look at the segment, sponsored by HX.

According to data from those 800 advisors, even if the number of clients booking an expedition cruise is smaller than in other segments, it can contribute to a larger share of the overall sales, and those who have focused on the segment have been rewarded by not only big commission checks but an exciting, stable stream of business.

The good news for advisors who haven’t yet gotten into the segment is that clients are drawn to expedition cruises for a variety of different reasons, ranging from checking an experience off a bucket list to cruising on a smaller ship to seeing nature in its most pristine form. That makes the potential client pool wide-ranging.

The other good piece of news is that there’s more understanding and more awareness about expedition cruising now than ever before, and more and more clients are coming to advisors specifically wanting an expedition cruise instead of wanting an experience that fits into the category, and then having to be converted into the segment.

The Outlook is available here and on the TMR Training Page for advisors wanting the full research, which includes a list of the top expedition cruise lines sold by advisors and the best lead generation channels.
