Travel Leaders Network President John Lovell to Depart for Cruise Role

Travel Leaders Network (TLN) President John Lovell will leave the company at the end of June to pursue a new opportunity with a cruise line partner, which has been revealed to be Virgin Voyages, the company announced Tuesday.

Lindsay Pearlman, former Ensemble co-president and current SVP and COO at TLN, will step in as president. Pearlman joined the company in 2019 and was promoted to his current role last year.

After joining the group in 2002, Lovell has spent more than two decades with TLN in a variety of leadership roles. He was named president of the group late in 2024. Under his leadership, TLN has grown to nearly $20 billion in annual sales.

“John Lovell has made a lasting impact on Internova,” said J.D. O’Hara, CEO of Internova Travel Group. “His commitment to supporting travel advisors and agencies has been key to solidifying our role as an industry leader. His legacy of compassion and service will continue to inspire us. While we will miss him, I know that everyone at Internova wishes John success in his new role.”

TLN just wrapped up its annual conference, EDGE, in Las Vegas. Speaking onstage, Lovell said he couldn’t be happier with where Travel Leaders Network is within the travel agency market.

“We’re the 800-pound gorilla, as John Chernesky said,” Lovell said, referring to NCL’s senior vice president of North American sales who used the term during his main stage presentation.

Lovell also cited a Phocuswright study that found that 50% of the entire U.S. travel agency market is currently held within the Travel Leaders Network.

A New Role at Virgin Voyages

John Lovell is joining Virgin Voyages as a board member and senior advisor, a move he announced in a letter to TLN members Tuesday, with Virgin’s announcement following shortly after. This continues a significant period of change for the cruise line, with Lovell’s hiring targeted at accelerating Virgin’s “growth strategy.”

Lovell “will serve as a strategic advisor across a number of key growth priorities and serve as a thought partner to the existing commercial and sales leadership team, supporting and amplifying the momentum already underway,” Virgin said in its announcement. Lovell will report to CEO Nirmal Saverimuttu.

In a statement, Saverimuttu called the hiring a “monumental, defining moment for Virgin Voyages.”

“When someone with his reputation, experience and a $20 billion portfolio chooses to join your team, it’s a powerful signal that you’re building something extraordinary. John’s leadership will help us scale our growth and deepen the relationships that have always been core to who we are, especially with our First Mate community,” he said.

The cruise line also recently announced the hiring of Koreen McNutt as vice president of agency and business development, along with the promotions of Kristy Woolums and Stephen Hopkins.

These changes are part of a newly launched integrated commercial approach designed to provide enhanced support, specialized expertise and accelerated opportunities for Virgin Voyages’ First Mate (travel advisor) partners, the company said.
