Northern India continues to suffer from strong, incessant monsoon seasonal rains, causing 58 deaths and inundating famous tourist sites, including the Taj Mahal.
Visual reports from the region, Uttar Pradesh, showed the garden area of the Taj Mahal in Agra was completely inundated Friday.
Additionally, there are reports from Fatehpur Sikri, just west of Agra, that a section of a wall at the Buland Darwaza, a 16th century sandstone fortress, was undermined by the continuous rainfall. Over the weekend, there were no reports of damage to either of the monument’s main buildings.
Indian authorities have warned residents to stay indoors as the forecast was for continuous rains in the region for the next 24 hours.
