Accor’s luxury brand will assume management of the iconic Puerto Rican hotel located on Isla Verde.
El San Juan Hotel in Puerto Rico will be reflagged under the Fairmont brand, ceasing operations as a Hilton’s Curio Collection property.
Hotel owner ESJ Resort LLC announced the deal on Tuesday for Fairmont Hotels & Resorts to assume management with the new name of Fairmont El San Juan Hotel on Jan. 2, 2020.
The hotel’s existing reservations system will remain open through Jan. 2, 2020, and all reservations and event bookings for arrivals after this date will be honored by Fairmont.
Fairmont El San Juan Hotel will be the first property in Puerto Rico for the luxury brand, as well as parent company Accor.
Located on Isla Verde, the beachfront property reopened in December 2018, after closing for more than a year due to damage from Hurricane Maria. The $65 million redesign refurbished the 388 guestrooms, public spaces, four swimming pools, cabanas and dining venues; as well as added a state-of-the-art, tri-level Well & Being Fitness Center.
Throughout the 1960s, Puerto Rico became a beacon for American tourists and entertainers and hosted the likes of Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole, Carol Channing and Liza Minelli. Beloved features of the property include the oval-shaped, hand-blown chandelier from Czechoslovakia, (the third largest of its kind in the world) and the 300-year-old Banyan Tree (located adjacent to the Caña Pool Lounge and the Wellness Pool).
