Anticipation for Disney’s Star Wars-themed land has been building since the company announced plans to develop an immersive environment that will virtually transport guests to a galaxy far, far away. Disney revealed Wednesday that Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will open in summer 2019 at Disneyland Resort and in late fall 2019 at Walt Disney World Resort.
Upon entering the land, guests will find themselves on a planet in the outer rim of the Star Wars galaxy. Characters will interact with visitors, and true to the universe, shops will sell items like a glass of blue milk.
Guests will have a chance to participate in multiple storylines where their choices have a direct impact on their experience. When piloting the Millennium Falcon, for example, it’s up to the flight crews if they make it to their destination on the other end.
Disney is also working on a corresponding hotel in Orlando’s Hollywood Studios, which will extend the immersive experience into guests’ accommodations. Once at the hotel, windows will offer a view into space and “families visiting this resort will board a starship alive with characters and stories that unfold all around them during their voyage through the galaxy.” Star Wars-inspired attire will be available for guests to dress up as their favorite characters.
