Delta Air Lines, along with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, and JFK International Air Terminal (the operator of JFK Terminal 4), plan to dramatically expand Terminal 4 at New York’s JFK International Airport.
The move is part of Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s proposed $13 billion plan to modernize JFK airport, and transform it into a world-class transportation hub.
“The Terminal 4 expansion will be another milestone in the transformation of JFK Airport, with upgrades that will give passengers the world-class experience they expect when flying into New York,” said Gov. Cuomo. “When completed, our $13 billion project to modernize JFK will create a more unified airport and solidify New York’s position as the premier entry point to our country.”
The Port Authority will submit a lease amendment with JFK International Air Terminal for the expansion and renovation of Terminal 4’s arrivals and departures hall; the addition of 16 new gates to Concourse A; the renovation of existing concourses; and roadway upgrades to improve access for vehicles.
“Delta is investing more in airport infrastructure today than at any other time in our history,” said Ed Bastian, CEO of Delta Air Lines. “With transformational projects now underway at both JFK and LaGuardia, we’re creating the airports our New York customers have long deserved. We’re looking forward to working with our partners at JFKIAT and the Port Authority to deliver a truly superior experience at JFK Terminal 4 that cements its status as a world-class global gateway for Delta customers.”
Currently, Delta operates out of Terminals 2 and 4, but the planned expansion would consolidate Delta’s operations to only Terminal 4, replacing the 11 gates it currently services in Terminal 2 with 16 new gates in the new Terminal 4. The expansion would also consist of a new Delta Sky Club for Terminal 4’s Concourse A.
The Terminal 4 expansion is expected to be completed in early 2023.
