Two earthquakes have hit the Marche region in central Italy, damaging buildings and leaving people without power across the area.
A 5.5 magnitude earthquake struck the region at about 7:10 p.m. local time near Visso (about 110 miles north of Rome) and then was followed two hours later by a 6.1 magnitude quake close to the same area, the U.S. Geological Survey said.
The earthquakes could reportedly be felt in Rome, where the BBC is reporting damage to historic buildings and a landslide on a highway north of the city.
There are no immediate reports of deaths, though there are reports of some injuries and serious damage to buildings in the area. Emergency services are reportedly in the area and are assessing the situation.
The news comes just months after a 6.2 magnitude earthquake in August, about 80 miles north of Rome, that rocked the Central Italian regions of Lazio, Marche and Umbria, leaving at least 120 dead.
