Royal Caribbean is canceling a second Radiance of the Seas sailing because of an ongoing technical issue with propulsion.
According to CEO Michael Bayley, Radiance has an issue with one of its Azipods, a propulsion unit that requires “highly specialized technicians from Northern Europe to travel to Alaska to fix.” Even though progress is being made, Bayley said, Royal has been forced to cancel the Sept. 8 sailing on the ship. Royal had done the same with its previous sailing.
The ship is currently spending the summer in Alaska, sailing seven-night itineraries out of Vancouver to Seward. Royal is giving all impacted guests a full refund for what they paid, along with a 100% future cruise credit that has to be used within one year. It also said it would reimburse any other fees, including flight, hotel, or trains, up to $250 for domestic guests and $500 for international guests.
Royal expects to be able to sail the next Radiance itinerary, currently scheduled for Sept. 15, Bayley said.
“To our September 15th guests we are confident repairs will be completed in the next few days in time for your sailing, and we will keep you informed should that change,” he said.
