G Adventures Celebrates Canadian Advisors with “Come From Away”
by Marsha Mowers
G Adventures gathered 12 advisors Wednesday night in Toronto to see “Come From Away.”
If there was a timelier Broadway show to see, or see again right now, it’d be hard to think of one.
Last night in downtown Toronto, G Adventures gathered 12 of its top selling advisors to see “Come From Away.” The night was one of their “Random Acts of G” events which celebrate and strengthen relationships with advisors.
The multi-award-winning show is based on the true story of the small town of Gander, NFLD, which took in 7,000 stranded passengers — doubling the size of its population — who were in the air on 9/11.
Come From Away celebrates Canada’s strength, patriotism, and compassion. As Canadians, we often don’t toot our own horn — many of us only learned of this story when the show debuted on Broadway.
In the current political climate, it could be time that we do.

David Green, Managing Director Canada, G Adventures said the company has conducted market research into Canadians’ current buying trends, with interesting results.
“There’s nervousness in the Canadian market, people are worried and don’t want to spend on big purchases,” he told the group during a presentation before the theatre. “There are two areas they are less likely to spend on; one is travel and the other is high end, luxury goods.”
“I think that’s very much a Canadian thing, a ‘let’s just wait and see’ approach. But what our research also tells us is that people are also looking for Canadian goods, and not just at the supermarket — they’re looking for it in travel as well.”

G Adventures is a Canadian company founded by Bruce Poon Tip in 1990. It has been such a homegrown success that Poon Tip received the Order of Canada. The importance of Canadian businesses in travel is something Green stressed during his chat with advisors.
“I’m not just saying this as a pitch, to book with G Adventures because we’re a Canadian company, but you yourself (advisors) are a Canadian business,” he told the group. “We should be talking about how your clients’ travel can support you.”
Jess Tucker, Marine Operations Manager and Keegan O’Conner, Private Groups Consultant, also spoke to advisors, reminding them of G’s many options available for groups and the incentives for advisors. Advisors are encouraged to reach out to learn more about their options.

“The fact is that people may be traveling less to the US just now, but those same people do want to travel, and they are looking at alternatives to the US. This is a great opportunity for advisors to promote alternative destinations, demonstrate their travel knowledge and create unique experiences”.
“Just like in Come From Away, a true story that enriches the audience and fills them with compassion as they leave the show, travel when done right can do the same! We know that travellers are looking for unique experiences, and G adventures’ unique approach to community tourism enriches lives in the same way.
“People are looking for that Canadian component when they travel. And I don’t think that will change,” added Green.
