Europ Assistance (EA) has officially launched in Canada with the release of a new travel insurance platform.

EA, a subsidiary of Generali Group, has a wide international reach, having supported customers in over 200 countries since its founding in 1963. Its parent company, Italy-based Generali Group, is one of the world’s largest global insurance and asset management providers.

This expansion into Canada marks EA’s second operation market in North America, joining Generali Group Assistance in the United States.

“We are excited to expand our travel insurance offerings into Canada, marking another step in our North American growth,” says Antoine Parisi, CEO of Europ Assistance Group. “This expansion enables us to deliver top-quality service to Canadians, furthering our mission to support travellers worldwide by providing peace of mind and exceptional care for both people and their belongings.”

According to a release, EA will begin rolling out insurance offerings in 2024 via domestic and international partnerships with travel providers, financial institutions, retail, and other channels. The insurance provider also intends to partner with local entities such as hospitals, clinics, air ambulances, and more.

EA Canada is led by a team of industry veterans who bring decades of experience in the insurance industry, reporting to Toronto-bassed CEO Robert Iafrate. Before joining EA last year, Iafrate spent 30 years in the insurance industry, most recently as associate vice president, travel insurance & affinity business development at Manulife.

“I am delighted to lead the Europ Assistance group into Canada as we pair our vast worldwide care network with local solutions for Canadians across the country, addressing the unique needs of the market and enhancing the Canadian travel insurance landscape,” said Iafrate.
