Marriott Is Bringing a JW Marriott All-Inclusive Resort to Costa Rica

Marriott today announced it has signed a deal to bring its JW Marriott All-Inclusive brand to Costa Elena, Costa Rica.

While no opening date has been set, the deal, signed with real estate company Mullen Real Estate Capital, marks a milestone for Marriott as it continues to expand its investment in the all-inclusive segment.

“We are thrilled to expand our presence in Costa Rica with the introduction of one of the first JW Marriott All-Inclusive Resorts,” said Uriel Burak, Marriott International Vice President, Development, Caribbean and Latin America (CALA). “This project marks the beginning of a strategic collaboration with Mullen Real Estate Capital, a pioneer in the all-inclusive sector, within the CALA region.”

The new resort will be located about 49 miles from Daniel Oduber Quirós International Airport (LIR) in the Costa Elena resort-residential community. It takes the place of the former Dreams Las Mareas Costa Rica.

The property is expected to offer 415 rooms, 11 food and beverage outlets, 17 swimming pools, a 16,000-square-foot spa, and 10,000 square feet of indoor meeting space.

While the JW Marriott will launch as the brand’s first all-inclusive in Costa Rica, it’s far from Marriott’s first investment in the country. In 2024 alone, Marriott signed deals for 10 properties in Costa Rica, adding more than 1,000 rooms to its portfolio. The company currently has 15 properties totaling 1,776 rooms in Costa Rica.

The most recent Marriott opening in Costa Rica was Nekajui, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve property that debuted last month as one of the country’s most luxurious resorts.

On the all-inclusive side, the next big Marriott opening is W Hotels Punta Cana,  one of the first W All-Inclusive resorts globally and one of the first W Hotels properties in Punta Cana, which will open later this spring.
