Hyatt Expands All-Inclusive Portfolio by 30% with Bahia Principe Deal

Hyatt Hotels Corp. and Grupo Pinero, owner of Bahia Principe Hotels & Resorts, have announced a deal that will expand Hyatt’s all-inclusive portfolio by about 30%.

Once closed, the joint 50-50, strategic and asset-light venture will add 23 resorts, totaling over 12,000 rooms, to World of Hyatt in destinations such as Jamaica, Mexico, Dominican Republic, and Spain.

“The addition of Bahia Principe’s resorts to Hyatt’s Inclusive Collection will enhance Hyatt’s all-inclusive offering and strengthen our leadership position with one of the largest collections of all-inclusive resorts in the world,” said Hyatt CEO Mark Hoplamazian. “Grupo Piñero’s family business culture, shared values, and expertise in the four- to five-star all-inclusive category coupled with Hyatt’s leadership in luxury all-inclusive creates powerful opportunities across Hyatt’s business – for guests and World of Hyatt members seeking quality all-inclusive experiences across stay occasions, and for hotel owners who can benefit from the network effect of more travelers within the portfolio.”

Based in Mallorca, Spain, Grupo Pinero has a 50-year history in hospitality. The company will continue to operate the Bahia Principe-branded hotels and resorts and own the Bahia Principe brand, while those properties enter Hyatt’s rapidly growing Inclusive Collection.

The hotels will join World of Hyatt’s loyalty program at a later date. Hyatt will appoint Bahia Principe CEO Julio Pérez as CEO to lead the management company and Grupo Piñero’s Global CEO Encarna Piñero to chairman of the board, with additional officers to be named at a later time.
