Cayo Levantado Resort
This week, Cayo Levantado Resort, located on the idyllic island of the same name just off the coast of Samaná in the Dominican Republic, is hosting an exclusive press trip with Canadian journalists. TMR Canada is on-site to experience this luxurious retreat firsthand.
Originally opened in the 1990s as a Bahia Principe property, the resort has since undergone an impressive transformation. Fully refurbished and rebranded in 2023, it has, within just two years, become one of only five properties in the Dominican Republic to earn the prestigious 4-star Forbes rating. Spread out on a 2-km private island, the resort offers an all-inclusive experience that seamlessly blends boutique luxury with family-friendly charm. Intimate and sophisticated, Cayo Levantado Resort is designed around wellness and sustainability—two of the most sought-after pillars in modern travel.
“It’s only our second year in operation. Last year, we were just getting started,” explains Ambar Grosh, Sales Director for Cayo Levantado Resort “We’re still a young property that needs more awareness, which is why we are hosting press trips in the coming months, starting with Canada—a natural market for the Dominican Republic.”

The deep-rooted connection between Canada and the Dominican Republic is particularly significant for Cayo Levantado Resort. The nearest airport, Samaná, offers direct seasonal flights with Air Transat and Air Canada from Montreal and Toronto, making travel more convenient for Canadian visitors. For now, Samaná airport doesnt welcome any American flights, therefore, Santo Domingo airport is the next best option. From there, an additionnal three-hour scenic drive to the dock followed by a 10 minutes boat ride are required to get to the property (a private boat or helicopter can also be arranged).
While reaching the island of Cayo Levantado requires some effort, the experience is well worth it. Upon arrival, guests are welcomed in true “White Lotus” fashion, greeted by the team at the dock.

The resort boasts 218 tropical-elegantly designed rooms and suites, including one- and two-bedroom villas. With four restaurants, five bars, two pools, a coffee bar, a smoothie bar, a spa, and a dedicated wellness sanctuary, the resort offers a refine escape into relaxation and indulgence.
The distinction between the spa and the wellness sanctuary is intentional. “Some guests want spa treatments, while others seek more spiritual experiences like sound healing,” explains Ambar. “By creating separate spaces, we can cater to different preferences.”

Wellness is central to the Cayo Levantado Resort experience, reflected in a diverse daily schedule of activities. Guests can enjoy meditation, yoga, sound healing, and other holistic workshops—all part of the resort’s all-inclusive offerings. The spa features hydrotherapy and body treatments, complemented by an on-site beauty salon available for an additional fee. The well-equipped fitness center accommodates both indoor and outdoor workouts.
To further enhance well-being, a resident nutritionist, on-site personal trainer, and wellness concierge offer personalized guidance, while each guest is assigned an “ambassador” to coordinate schedules and special requests. Sustainability is also a priority—the hotel operates with its own water filtration system and solar power. Local culture is celebrated throughout, from locally crafted art to in-room amenities like homemade bath salts and body butter. Thoughtful touches, including refillable water bottles and a selection of healthy snacks in the complimentary minibar, complete the experience.

Cayo Levantado is more than just a resort; it’s a sanctuary where luxury, wellness, and sustainability harmoniously converge to create a custom experience, whether guest prefer to focus on relaxation, fitness or nutrition, ensuring that guests leave feeling rejuvenated—both mentally and physically.
So far, we are totally sold.
