Several recently completed and upcoming projects in Mazatlán are pumping new life into the Mexican city’s tourism industry.

In 2024, Mazatlán will welcome new hotels, shops, restaurants, and an aerospace center, expanding in the hospitality, commercial, and industrial sectors and ultimately continuing the tourism industry growth that it saw last year.

“Mazatlán remains a preferred city for tourism in Mexico for visitors, who enjoy our beautiful beaches, gastronomy, attractions, and historic landmarks,” said Estrella Palacios Domínguez, Secretary of Tourism for the State. “Due to this reputation, we have seen a continued growth in investments in our city’s offerings.

New hotels set to open this year will add a total of 900 rooms to Mazatlán, which is nicknamed the “Pearl of the Pacific.” The new properties include Dreams Estrella Del Mar Mazatlán Golf & Spa Resort, which will include eight restaurants and an 18-hole golf course and is expected to open in April 2024; Fiesta Americana Zona Dorada; and Nus Wyndham Garden Suites.

In addition, the city is poised to open the Mazatlán Aerospace Park in January and the NUS Suites & Plaza commercial center, which will feature restaurants, bars, and shops on the ground floor of the Nus Wyndham Garden Suites, opening in the new Marina Mazatlán neighborhood in the second quarter of the new year.

“We are excited to welcome new hotels, commercial plazas, and an aerospace park to Mazatlán’s growing portfolio of business and hospitality brands,” Domínguez added. “We are confident that these new partnerships will continue to establish Mazatlán as top-of-mind among visitors from North American and beyond.”

In 2023, development projects in Mazatlán amounted to about $817 million in investments, with 64% of those 45 projects relating to the tourism industry. One significant development was the opening of Mexico’s largest aquarium, Gran Acuario Mazatlán “Mar de Corté,” located on the 12-mile-long boardwalk overlooking the Pacific Ocean. The aquarium is dedicated to celebrating the biodiversity of the Sea of Cortez, which was declared a UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site in 2015.
