Record Number of PAX for Icelandair in March
by Marsha Mowers
Icelandair has hit a record number of passengers in March 2025, with 312,000, representing a 5% increase over 2024.
Of those passengers, more than a third (38%) were visitors travelling to Iceland and those travelling via Iceland (37%) showing what Icelandair President and CEO called a considerably stronger demand, though the airline is seeing a slowdown in longer term bookings for 2025.
“Booking status in the market to Iceland for the summer season is stronger than at the same time last year from all markets; North America, Europe and beyond. Encouragingly, demand in the market from Iceland also remains considerably stronger than last year.
The via market continues to show good demand, but reflecting our strategic emphasis on other markets, the booking volumes are somewhat lower than the previous year. All in all, the booking status is generally stronger for the summer than at the same time last year, but we have noticed a slowdown in longer-term bookings which aligns with increasing global economic uncertainty.”
Icelandair also reported a load factor was 83.5%, and they an on-time performance of 84%
Icelandair attributes some of the growth to growing their partnership program which allows for loyalty passengers on other airlines to redeem miles for their flights, such as US based JetBlue as well as the growth of their own loyalty program, the Saga Club.
