Long Island’s Islip MacArthur Airport (ISP) is getting a new airline—Avelo Airlines.

Avelo Airlines will debut at Long Island MacArthur Airport (ISP) on May 22, offering twice-weekly flights on Thursdays and Sundays to Charlotte’s Concord-Padgett Regional Airport (USA). It will be the airport’s fifth carrier overall.

Starting June 12, Avelo will add twice-weekly service on Thursdays and Sundays between Islip and Central Florida’s Lakeland International Airport (LAL). The airline will also launch the same schedule between Islip and North Carolina’s Wilmington International Airport (ILM) on June 12.

Avelo is an ultra-low-cost airline that launched in April 2021. In addition to Islip, the carrier serves 23 states and Puerto Rico, along with four international destinations — the Bahamas, Jamaica, Mexico, and the Dominican Republic.

Avelo’s jets include a class of Premium and Premium Economy seats that offer extra legroom. Tickets are unbundled, meaning passengers must pay extra for add-ons such as seat selection, priority boarding, and checked or overhead carry-on bags.

At the same time Avelo announced its expansion into Islip, the airline also revealed plans to add two additional destinations: Nassau, Bahamas, and Grand Rapids, Michigan.

The Nassau service will connect Lynden Pindling International Airport (NAS) with Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU) twice weekly. From Grand Rapids’ Gerald R. Ford International Airport (GRR), Avelo will also offer twice-weekly service to Raleigh-Durham.
