An historic Detroit icon is ready for a new chapter in luxury hospitality. NoMad Hotels, in partnership with Hilton and Ford Motor Company, will open NoMad Detroit in 2027 inside the newly restored Michigan Central Station, marking the brand’s debut in Michigan and Hilton’s first U.S. luxury lifestyle hotel.
The nearly 180-room property, including 30 suites, will occupy the top five floors of the century-old station, which had never been built out or used. The hotel will also feature a signature restaurant and bar, a wellness space on the third floor, and restored public areas including the station’s carriage house, with the original clock reinstated as part of the redevelopment.

“A year after we opened Michigan Central Station to the world, our vision to create a global innovation hub and a destination symbolizing Detroit’s future is well underway,” Bill Ford, executive chair of Ford Motor Company, told Detroit Free Press. “Together with NoMad and Hilton, we are now announcing the next phase of our ambitious vision offering visitors and the community a unique hotel destination and memorable food and beverage experiences in this iconic landmark.”
The announcement follows a highly competitive selection process. “The interest internationally was amazing,” Josh Sirefman, CEO of Michigan Central, told the paper. “We had 16 finalist proposals that we worked through and ultimately were very happy to choose the Sydell Group and Hilton together, and the NoMad brand.”
NoMad Hotels are known for blending historic architecture with locally rooted design, a sensibility that aligns with Detroit’s designation as a UNESCO City of Design. “NoMad has built a reputation for developing hotels that take inspiration from the history, art, design and culture that make a place unique,” Andrew Zobler, founder and CEO of Sydell Group, said in a release. “NoMad Detroit is poised to be no exception.”
With sweeping views of Corktown, downtown Detroit, and Canada, NoMad Detroit will cater to both discerning business and leisure travelers. The hotel joins a growing number of high-end hospitality investments in Detroit, including the recently opened AC Hotel and upcoming JW Marriott and Edition properties.
“This project champions Detroit, rejuvenates a historic landmark and marks Hilton’s luxury debut in Michigan,” said Kara Randall, vice president, luxury and mixed-use development at Hilton.
For luxury travel professionals, NoMad Detroit represents a unique opportunity to engage with a culturally resonant, design-forward destination backed by two of the most iconic names in American industry.
