If a client is ready to spurge on the big couple’s vacation that they’ve always wanted to take with their partner, Hanging Gardens of Bali could be their next getaway. The property became the island’s pioneer jungle resort when it opened in 2005, and the guest make up is 60% couples, mostly from the United States.
“All the rooms are spread out in the jungle – around nine levels from the river to the hills,” Vera Fitriana, director of sales and marketing, Hanging Gardens of Bali, told Travel Market Report. “When you are staying at the riverside, you can hear the water flow from the river – it’s very meditating.”
The resort is comprised of 40 villas, all with their own private pools. A variety of villa categories are available, from the Riverside Pool Villa to the Panoramic Pool Villa to the Royal Spa Suite. Though the resort is not typically for children, there is also a Family Pool Villa with both king and twin-sized beds.

Guests enter through the lobby on the ground level by the river. Then, they can either walk the stairs or ride one of Hanging Gardens of Bali’s three funiculars up to the higher levels. One goes from the lobby to the main level, where guests will find the restaurant, bar, and iconic two-tier pool. Then, there is another funicular leading up to the spa.
A third funicular is reserved just for guests staying at the top-level, premium villa The Hidden Palace, which features five suites and can accommodate up to 13 guests. It is nestled deep in the jungle for ultimate privacy and exclusive experiences.
“What you can do here is small retreats, private weddings, or let’s say you want to do a semi-outdoor informal meeting – there is a semi-outdoor dining area here,” Fitriana said. “We also have 24-hour butler service and the private funicular.”

Hanging Gardens of Bali was fully renovated in 2022, and the resort also boasts a yoga chalet hosting classes each afternoon, a spa, and a shop with handcrafted items. Most recently, the property opened a meditation area, a wine cellar, and a newly renovated gym.
Guests can take advantage of the newly launched Chef’s Table experience and rotating dancing and crafting workshops. To celebrate its 20th anniversary this year, Hanging Gardens of Bali is also planning a showcase of local artisans.
Included in the hotel rates are also daily breakfast, mountain biking excursions, and cultural walking tours.
“We show the guests who work by the water, who’s in the rice village, who are in the rainforest,” Fitriana said. “You see the temples as well, you see the locals, you can even have coffee with the locals.”
Many other add-on experiences are available, from a romantic lunch by a waterfall to moonlit dinners to a floating boat dining experience at the pool.
